Villa Asunción is comprised of four apartments, of which we offer Apartments I and II, and is situated on the outskirts of the village of San José. Set in its own peaceful grounds with two swimming pools, each apartment has its own seating area plus other little corners in the gardens from which to sit and enjoy the views to the sea and mountains. It is just a ten minute drive to the sandy beaches of Los Cancajos and to the lovely historic capital of Santa Cruz de La Palma. Just a short stroll away is a local supermarket where you can buy freshly baked bread, vegetables and a good range of groceries.
Villa Asunción has been restored to a very high level of quality. With the warmth of solid wood furniture inside, restoration has been carried out with an eye to keeping the character of the old building. Meanwhile, the outdoor seating areas, gardens and walkway with palm and dragon trees native to Palma, along with the swimming pools, transform it into a little oasis.
For those interested in astronomy on La Palma, there are two telescopes available along with a small library packed with books on astronomy, books on La Palma and a huge wealth of information.
Villa Asunción I
Villa Asunción I with its internal archway and wooden ceiling, is very much traditional Canarian as befits this old building but even so there is a slight hint of Morocco. It comprises an open lounge/diner with kitchenette - the large, old doors open out on the patio. Steps lead into the bedroom with twin beds and next to it is the bathroom with shower.
Villa Asunción II
Villa Asunción II is very similar to I in that the two large, original wooden doors open into the spacious lounge/diner with kitchenette. Through a wooden-framed doorway, steps lead up to the bedroom with twin beds and bathroom with shower. The theme here is more classic cottage which is enhanced by the furniture and original artifacts.
For those of you interested in history, this typical Canarian House was an old jam factory, founded in the mid-nineteenth century by the Spanish trader D. Máximo Cutillas. The mansion was extended with a second floor in 1892, the year in which Asunción was born. She was the ninth child of D. Máximo, most of whom emigrated to the American continent. Years later the house became the property of Dr. Luján, husband of Asunción, who changed it into a place of leisure and home of the following Cutillas generations. The present owners have converted it into a cosy Rural Tourism House, full of history and with various artefacts, such as the old mill stone in the garden. This gives the place a special atmosphere!
